What Settings For A Legacy/Dish Pro Twin/Quad LNB?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

c/p KiowaEagle

There is alot of confusion about twin lnb's and what settings should be used so I thought I'd post a brief tutorial.

First, what is a "twin" lnb? It's 2 lnb's (eyes) built into one housing with a built-in switch made to pick up 2 satellites 9 degrees apart, i.e. 110&119 or 82&91.

Twin lnb's come in different configurations. Most have 2 coaxial outputs, each output feeds both sats to a receiver so a twin can feed 2 receivers. Some have 4 outputs making them able to feed 4 receivers, these are called "Quads".

One, the DP Plus twin has 2 outputs and one input that enables you to add another single DP lnb to it's internal switch and then feed all 3 sats to 2 receivers.

The most important thing you need to know about these lnb's from a setup standpoint though is whether they're legacy or DishPro. It's a very important distinction as the settings are very different. Fortunately it's easy to tell the difference. Although the lnb's themselves look identical in most aspects DishPro and DP Plus lnb's will be clearly marked in big, bold print on the back side of the lnb, enabling you to identify them even if they're on the roof and your not.

Check out the attached pic to see what I mean. The logo may not be exactly the same but will say DP in some form, Legacy lnb's having no label on that side.

So now that you've identified whether it's a DP or legacy lnb here are the settings for each type that are good for all Sonicview models...

Note: These settings are for Sonicview receivers only!

For DishPro twins & quads:

Lnb power=on
Lnb type=OCS-DP
Lnb frequency=11250
Transponder...110=12224, 119=12239
22khz=off
Search option=All
Network search=On
Diseqc...110=2, 119=1
Motor=Disable
Legacy switch=Off

For Legacy twins & quads

Lnb power=on
Lnb type=Single
Lnb frequency=11250
Transponder...110=12224, 119=12239
22khz=off
Search option=All
Network search=On
Diseqc...Off
Motor=Disable
Legacy switch=119=sw42 lnb1, 110 sw42 lnb2
(Note: Some advocate using sw44 setting for quads. I've found sw42 still works best)

Always use the Red Button Sat Scan, not blind scan. Enable all SID settings in User Options menu to put & keep your channels in provider order.
